Sightsavers is a leading international NGO working to prevent avoidable blindness, restore sight and advocate for social inclusion and equal rights for people with disabilities. Operating programmes in more than 30 developing countries, Sightsavers tackles the main causes of avoidable blindness including cataract and a group of neglected tropical diseases such as river blindness and trachoma.
Sightsavers Ireland was established in 2003 and is part of the Sightsavers Global organisation. Sightsavers Ireland is registered as a charity in Ireland with an independent Board of Directors. It has built up a sizeable network of supporters in Ireland with an annual fundraising income of €6m to €7m including grants received from Irish Aid for designated projects in four countries in West Africa.
Sightsavers Ireland are looking to appoint a new CEO to lead in the planning, communicating and execution of the organisational strategy and operations in a manner consistent with the vision, mission and values of Sightsavers Ireland.
Reporting to the Chair/Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer will lead, manage, support and inspire staff/other key stakeholders in the fulfilment of their responsibilities and ensure compliance with the organisation’s policies & procedures. Additionally, the post-holder will take responsibility for managing relationships with Irish Aid. They will also maintain and build support for Sightsavers Ireland, continuing the development and growth of a sustainable fundraising model.
The Board is seeking an experienced and proven leader who will bring both strong strategic and operational competence to the organisation. The Chief Executive Officer will have the capacity and personal characteristics to lead the organisation and will display the highest levels of integrity. A capability to lead the organisation’s fundraising programmes and deliver on all associated key measures and financial targets in a challenging and competitive environment is an essential requirement.
